I am a children’s author. I love to write books and poems for children. Most visitors to my website are book-loving kids, parents, or teachers. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy your visit! And keep reading!
Recently released Rain Forest Colors has received a starred Kirkus review! Fabulous photos taken by National Geographic photographer Tim Laman inspired my colorful text.
I have been researching the relationship between text and art in picture books under a Billie M. Levy grant at the Northeast Children’s Literature Collection at the University of Connecticut. Check out my blog post about how illustrations add “layers” to a story.
Love is Real published with HarperCollins in early 2014; whimsical animal illustrations by
Anna Brown perfectly complement my words. Publishers Weekly says, “In impeccably rhymed couplets, Lawler (Snowzilla) makes the case that love is all about actions in a story that feels simultaneously old-fashioned and of-the-moment…”
If Kisses Were Colors is now available in hardcover, board, and a cute (“mailable”) Little Letters edition. Spanish edition rights have been renewed.
Ocean Counting has been named a 2014 Outstanding Science Trade Book by the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association)! Teachers, librarians, and parents may want to peek at my Ocean Counting curriculum guide that includes Common Cores standards references.
