SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
I charge $800 per school day within a 1 hour drive in Connecticut.

I am available for other appearances, such as library programs or writers’ workshops, on an individually arranged basis. Please inquire by e-mail (J.Lawler@snet.net) regarding availability and charges for all presentations.

TOPIC:

The Life Cycle of a Picture Book

TARGET AUDIENCE K-2:

Up to 4 sessions per day
Ideal session 75 or fewer students

CONTENT:

In a fun and age-appropriate way, the author explains
the process for the creation of a picture book, from
idea through publication. A PowerPoint presentation
is supplemented by props and audience participation.

OBJECTIVES:

Students (picture and chapter book readers)
will better understand that:

Creation of a book involves many people and steps.
We all have story ideas inside us.
Good writers look at every word.
Revision is fun and authors revise many times.
Stories can help you learn many things (even math).
Authors set goals and work hard (so can students).
Good writing includes fiction and nonfiction forms.

RESOURCES:

Links provided to author’s curriculum guides
and related activities.

AUTOGRAPHING:

Author will be available for autographing books.
Author will provide information on book ordering.

TOPIC:

Home Grown Stories

TARGET AUDIENCE 3-5:

Up to 4 sessions per day
Ideal session 100 or fewer students

CONTENT:

Author’s PowerPoint presentation will share
her personal journey from childhood nature
lover to published author, focusing on the theme
that we all have stories to share. Story structure,
writing, rhyming, and revision will be emphasized.
Smaller groups will undertake poetry
comprehension exercise.

OBJECTIVES:

Students will better understand that:

We all have story ideas inside us.
Following a specific structure will create a good story.
Good writers look at every word.
Revision is fun and authors revise many times.
Poetry is fun to read and create.
Good writing includes fiction and nonfiction forms.

RESOURCES:

Links provided to author’s curriculum guides
and related activities.

AUTOGRAPHING:
Author will be available for autographing books.
Author will provide information on book ordering.

OTHER PRESENTATIONS:

Author can present based on requested
topics, for adults or children. Possible
topics include author’s journey to publication
as testament to the power of persistence,
 the nuts and bolts of writing in rhyme,
and/or variations on the topics
outlined above.

RATES
I charge $800 per school day within a 1 hour drive in Connecticut. I charge $900 per school day (plus expenses) outside of Connecticut and beyond 1 hour drive in-state.
